The innovative magnetic floating bed

magnetic floating bed

The magnetic floating bed was invented by a Dutch architect named Janjaap Ruijssenaars in the year 2006. It is designed to float in mid air and has the capacity to tolerate up to 2,000 pounds of weight. After six years of hard work by the designer and his team they introduced this innovative magnetic floating bed in Annual Millionaire Fair held at Belgium. As Janjaap Ruijssenaars said,

No matter where you live all architecture is dedicated by gravity. I wonder you could make an object, a building or a piece of furniture where this is not the case - where another power actually dictates the image

The designer has used ceramic magnets and refrigerator magnets to test his idea and after he made his test successfully the team finally involved in making the “first non-gravity based model” in the world to create floating bed. He believed gravity was the essential factor that combines all design and architectural decisions on Earth which concept enables him to make this innovative bed.

The designer was inspired by the monolith from the Stanley Kubrick film “2001 A Space Odyssey” which was the reason behind him in innovating this Best inventions of 2006. This bed is made of permanent magnetic material which does not need any form of energy or electricity to make it float. The industrial strength magnet is placed in opposition that is positive ends of one row are placed against the negative ends of another row to make the bed rise above the ground. To secure the bed without falling on to the ground four thin cables are connect on each corner. These cables make the bed as motionless in both of its vertical and horizontal position. All these techniques made it possible for the Janjaap to build an innovative magnetic floating bed which can be installed both in indoors and outdoors. This can be the inspiration for other designers to make some other innovative architecture. The bed is available both in full sized and half sized model as displayed by him on the fair. The materials used in this bed help it to float in the air without any support or need of energy.

The half sized bed has the floating height of 40cm and has the capacity to lift up to 900 kgs. This can also be used as sofa, Japanese style dining table or like a shelf to display the things.

The full sized floating bed has the floating height of 8 cm and has the capacity to load 80 kgs which comes in a base of treated black steel that is specially designed. This bed will make you feel like flying in the air and it delivers different experience of sleeping.
